PSG-Manchester City: €185M Worth of Signings on the Bench, the Furious Rant

That scathing verdict stands in stark contrast to the defining transfer triumphs credited to the Paris Saint-Germain sporting advisor. Signings like Vitinha, João Neves, Willian Pacho, and Désiré Doué cemented the club’s elite stature as double Champions League winners. Luis Campos successfully retooled the Parisian starting lineup, yet the squad depth now exposes glaring shortcomings.

Around the Parc des Princes, supporters know all too well what happens when fringe players fail to deliver. The club currently sit in 5th place in the table on 11 points, trailing AS Monaco by 3 points. The back-up options must step up without delay to relieve the regulars before squaring off against Manchester City.

Speaking on RMC during the show After Foot,  Maxime Chanot did not hold back following the Parisian victory. The pundit took direct aim at 5 starters from the lineup, namely Illia Zabarnyi, Dro, Lucas Hernandez, Lucas Beraldo, and Maghnès Akliouche. Brought in for a combined fee estimated at €185 million under sporting advisor Luis Campos, these players are struggling to provide the required reliability in his view.

For Maxime Chanot, the display produced against a promoted side exposes the current limitations of this squad depth. The former defender slammed a glaring lack of impact from these squad rotation options who are expected to challenge the starting hierarchy. In his eyes, the reliance on regular key starters remains far too heavy for a side harbouring continental ambitions.

On the pitch at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain got the job done with a 3-1 win over Le Mans FC on October 10, 2026. Despite the positive scoreline, the manner of the victory left fans wanting far more, as the Parisians struggled for collective control. Head coach Luis Enrique had to bring on 4 players around the hour mark to finally lock down the points.

This dress rehearsal comes right before a massive showdown against Manchester City on October 14, 2026 in the Champions League. With the schedule speeding up, seeing squad rotation options struggle against lower-tier opposition raises legitimate concern. Inside the Parc des Princes, everyone knows what happens when intensity drops at this level.
