Vitinha Reveals Mindset Behind New Attacking Role In Portugal’s Nations League Win

Deployed in an advanced midfield role by Jorge Jesus, Vitinha showcased the full extent of his technical skill set across the midfield engine room. The Paris Saint-Germain playmaker gained the freedom needed to drive attacking threat. This tactical positioning is far from unfamiliar territory for the 26-year-old midfielder, who previously operated in a similar capacity during his time with FC Porto.

That attacking presence paid off in the 67th minute at Copenhagen's Parken Stadium, turning home a delivery from Bruno Fernandes. Claiming his maiden international goal for the Seleção das Quinas, the player found the net with a rare header. Speaking after the final whistle, he joked about the light-hearted dressing room banter from his teammates regarding his height.

Beyond his direct impact on the scoresheet, Vitinha ran the midfield engine room with a 90% passing accuracy throughout the match. His fellow Paris Saint-Germain teammates also stepped up in an impressive team display, starting with left-back Nuno Mendes, dynamic on his flank, and striker Gonçalo Ramos, who made way in the 81st minute for young talent João Neves. Goals from João Cancelo and João Félix sealed Portuguese dominance over the Danes, despite strikes from Mikkel Damsgaard and Rasmus Højlund.

With this 4-2 victory, Portugal remain top of Group A4 in the UEFA Nations League with a flawless record of 9 points. The side have built steady momentum following wins over Wales and Norway. Jorge Jesus's men will aim to keep that perfect run going when they host the Norwegians at the Estádio do Dragão.
